At ReXP we claim to provide practical and realistic tools and solutions to drive retail performance. When we delivered a national programme to a high street optical chain we wished to evidence how successful our practices and advice is when implemented fully.

We were asked to support a local store who were underachieving against target.

Using the tools and practices developed for use across the entire retail estate (850 stores), we visited the store and in partnership with the owners and management team we delivered measurable turn around in performance.

We followed the simple processes in our retail performance model and introduced the accompanying tools and within 3 months the store was beating both sales and profit targets.

The action taken included:

  • Developing a powerful (and shared) vision for the future of the business
  • Supporting the business owners to developing their own 3 year business plan
  • Identifying the KPIs for success, involving the team in development plans to ensure achievement of plan, and making targets and performance visible through engaging and interactive tools and processes
  • Developing a culture of ownership, accountability and responsibility within the whole store
  • Establishing team and individual review processes, and development plans
  • Delivering sales and service training and coaching



Within three months the store was consistently achieving and beating sales targets, and was experiencing profitable months.

A new energy and ownership from the owners and teams created a dynamic and fun workplace.

Succession planning saw staff leave to establish their own stores and other internal staff take up the vacated roles.
